Project 3: Inventory

This was the final project for an illustration techniques course that shows the iterative process of creating a player inventory for an imaginary game. In this case, I used this as an opportunity to create a concept of an inventory for a game I have been doing research for.

The first step when creating this project like the other projects from the illustration techniques course is to brainstorm ideas.
Since the games theme I had in mind was "Survival horror with modern interpretations of dinosaurs," I had to think about what the player might come across or items they would need. In addition, I thought of items from other games/media that would make sense as well or pay homage to.
The second step is very similar to the brainstorming stage which is creating sketches of variations of the items to see what designs worked best to continue refining.
The check marks by some of the squares were the versions I deemed looked best.
The third step is doing a comp stage by refining details of the previously chosen items and adding aspects of color as a baseline to continue forward.
In this stage, I wanted to have a dirt-like background to give a relative forest terrain feel.
The fourth step is a progress stage in Adobe Illustrator. This style was developed by the culmination of what I had learned throughout the class.
The simple vector style was one I had figured out from the first project (Project 1: Persona Line Art) and addition of small details with lighting was realized during the second project (Project 2: Retreat Cabin).
